Scratch

Scratch is a new programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art -- and share your creations on the web.
Scratch is designed to help young people (ages 8 and up) develop 21st century learning skills. As they create Scratch projects, young people learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the process of design.
Scratch is available free of charge.

I've never tried this tool but I will because it seems really interesting.

Magazine Factory

MagazineFactory is a popular and versatile concept for developing web magazines for various purposes and contexts. The web magazine may be a single project, or a magazine which is edited continuously throughout the school year. MagazineFactory is an easy and enjoyable publishing tool which provides the teachers and the pupils an opportunity to work as editorial staff in the class and to publish a web magazine of their own. The teacher is the editor-in-chief, while the pupils are journalists.

Web Poster Wizard

Web Poster Wizard is a free tool that allows educators to create a lesson, worksheet, or class page and immediately publish it online. Teachers can also set up classes and assign projects to students. Students complete the assignments by creating their own online projects or reports. Teachers and students can even add images and links to their pages.
I've used it more than once to create Treasure Hunts. Give it a try, I'm sure you'll like it.

Zimmer Twins

The Zimmer Twins is a Canadian children's website and broadcast animation project. It is known for its unique format which combines online participation and broadcast delivery. Children are invited to create and share 1-minute animated episodes using a story editor and library of animation. The audience creates endings to short, professionally-produced story-starters. Kids tell their stories by choosing actions, characters, props and settings. They can also add their own dialog and on-screen text.
If you have younger students, try it with them. They will love it!

Why Let our Students Blog?

Rachel Boyd from New Zealand created this presentation on the benefits and reasons why we should let our students blog. You can check her blog at: http://rachelboyd.blogspot.com

Pay attention

This is probably a bit off topic, but I couldn't help posting this presentation here.

Description: Since most of today's students can appropriately be labeled as "Digital Learners", why do so many teachers refuse to enter the digital age with their teaching practices? This presentation was created in an effort to motivate teachers to more effectively use technology in their teaching.

Please see http://t4.jordandistrict.org/payattention to learn how you can become a better teacher.

Learning through videos

Learning through media (movies, music, etc.) is one of the best ways to learn a new language.

www.teachertube.com is the site where I discovered this video which is quite useful if you want to teach your students the capitals and states of the USA.

Hot Potatoes

This is probably the best known software that allows users create interactive exercises. It is the one I use more often with my students not only because they actually enjoy doing this type of exercises but also because I have feedback on their performance.

The Hot Potatoes software includes six applications: multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-filling. Hot Potatoes is free of charge for those working for publicly-funded non-profit-making educational institutions, who make their pages available on the web.
You have to register to use it.

Welcome

Some of you may have already read the comment I wrote in Did you know 2.0. . When I realised that this week's task was to create a blog, I immediately thought that a blog would be the perfect place to share ideas, experiences, e-learning software and tools, etc.
I hope that together we can build up a vast collection of resources to use in our classes.
Thanks.
